What is the Difference between Medicinal Marijuana and CBD Oil

What is cannabis medicinal?

Generally speaking, medicinal cannabis is a cannabis used to relieve symptoms of a medical condition, such as epilepsy. It is necessary to differentiate between medicinal cannabis and recreational cannabis. Recreational weed is a type of cannabis used by people to get ‘high.’ For certain patients with chronic or terminal diseases, traditional drugs do not work or do not work as well as medicinal cannabis. Also, for certain patients, traditional medications may function but cause painful side effects that cannabis may help to alleviate.

As the legal use of hemp and other cannabis products expands, customers are increasingly curious about their choices. This includes cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), two natural compounds present in plants with the Cannabis gene.

Cannabis is one of the busiest emerging trends in health and is still gaining traction. Cannabis, once synonymous with bongs and hacky sacks, has found its way into mainstream natural medicine. And with good reason-cannabis has been shown to help with epilepsy, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, and more.

Cannabidiol CBD

One of the several chemical compounds (cannabinoids) formed by cannabis plants is CBD, also known as cannabidiol. While more than 100 cannabinoid forms have been identified, CBD is typically the second highest in abundance – sitting just behind its most common ‘THC’ counterpart (Tetrahydrocannabinol). Although both THC and CBD have their therapeutic advantages and applications, due to their non-intoxicating nature, CBD stands out.

Hands down, CBD oil is the most common aspect of this herbal remedy.  Since CBD does not have a psychoactive component, it appeals to a wide variety of natural medicine fans, including those who are not trying to get high or who may have adverse reactions to other medications.  Not to mention, the World Health Organization states that CBD has few or no harmful side effects.  Depending on the form of cannabinoid, it is either a chemical compound in a plant or a neurotransmitter in your body (part of the endocannabinoid system).  The cannabis plant has more than 100 components. The primary components that people speak about are active cannabinoids in plants known as phytocannabinoids. The phytocannabinoids you are used to hearing about the most are CBD and THC.  The other cannabinoids are endocannabinoids that reside in your body.

The real therapeutic use of the herbal, holistic treatment ranges from preventing seizures to relieving anxiety and helping insomniacs get some much-needed rest-with little or no side effects. CBD oil is known to relieve anxiety and inflammation without making you high. And it’s not addictive, as some prescription anxiety drugs may be. People are trying to use cannabis for medicinal purposes, but do not want to feel a high or psychoactive effect. Numerous studies have shown that CBD is effective in treating neuropathic pain (both studies have been performed in patients with cancer and CBD has mitigated pain associated with chemotherapy).

It’s still early days of CBD science (especially in Australia); government restrictions have prevented a lot of clinical research and funding when it comes to CBD as a medicine in the last few decades. However, what has been investigated and confirmed is very unbelievable and more is coming as a result of changing laws.

It is generally due to the psychoactive effects of THC when customers feel the “high” resulting from cannabis use. CBD, on the other hand, is non-psychoactive and certain negative psychological effects, such as anxiety, are also considered to be minimised.

The CBD:THC ratio in cannabis is the other element to be considered. Various cannabis strains can produce varying cannabinoid ratios, with some potent CBD strains producing up to 15-25% CBD content. A high percentage of CBD and small THC levels are typically found in medicinal cannabis and CBD oil.

While in terms of medicinal use, CBD is the standout cannabinoid, THC also has its own medical applications, especially when used in conjunction with CBD.

Isolate CBD Oil
CBD oil Isolate is just what the word suggests. The CBD is isolated and obtained in its purest form from the cannabis plant. As part of the extraction process, all other cannabinoids and terpenes (which are related to their scent and flavour) are extracted and removed. This leaves a crystalline powder containing 99% pure CBD behind it. When the CBD percentage is above 99%, the word “isolate” is marketed on CBD oil products in Australia and does not contain any traces of THC.

Full Spectrum CBD Oil 
This means that in the process, the complete range of cannabinoids, terpenes and essential oils originally present on the plant is removed during the process. The combination of CBD, THC, terpenes and other minor cannabinoids, some studies believe, improves the therapeutic effects of the final product.

CBD Tinctures
Any medicine kept in the alcohol arrangement is defined by the term ‘tincture.’ Below 60-70 percent distilled alcohol, CBD is suspended. These tinctures are necessarily hemp extracts (in liquid form) mixed with an alcohol, glycerine, or cinnamon/peppermint oil combination. The shelf life of tinctures is long and the dosage varies from consumer to user. CBD tinctures have higher bioavailability compared with CBD oil, due to the presence of alcohol. It serves as a preservative that improves and extends CBD shelf life.

 

Tetrahydrocannabinol THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol is the one that gets people high (THC). THC activates cells in the brain to produce dopamine, causing euphoria. It also interferes with the processing of memory in the hippocampus, a portion of the brain responsible for making new memories. The key psychoactive compound that causes the high sensation in cannabis is THC. Cannabin can be consumed in several different ways. It is available in oils, edibles, tablets, tinctures, and more as well. Other cannabinoids have been shown to reduce disease symptoms. There are 80 to 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. The therapeutic effects of some of the other cannabinoids are being investigated in international studies. The compound responsible for much of the psychological effects of marijuana is THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol. It behaves very much like the body’s naturally developed cannabinoid chemicals. In certain regions of the brain, cannabinoid receptors are localised in conjunction with thought, memory, pleasure, coordination and perception of time. These receptors are bound to and activated by THC.
